WASHINGTON DC., September 21, 2002 – The Washington Historical Autographic and Certificate Organization is bringing together, on November 9th 2002, collectors and dealers of Scripophily from across the country., the internet's largest buyer and seller of collectable stock and bond certificates will be attending and set up at the show.   This exciting show and auction will be held at the Westpark Hotel in Tyson Corner from 9 am to 5 pm.

This is the 14th show presented by the Washington Historical Autographic and Certificate Organization  which was founded by George Teas. The show  will bring together people from diverse fields who are looking for an exciting piece of history and a connection to their past.   Scripophily [scrip-off-filly] is the hobby’s name for collecting non redeemable stock and bond certificates. Many of these stocks and bonds are very ornate and have artistically engraved historical images that make excellent display pieces.  Collecting stocks and bonds can be a hobby, but there are those who consider Scripophily an investment.  There have been rare certificates that have sold in excess of $100,000, but the most common prices range from $15 to $75.

Many dealers became interested in Scripophily as a hobby and then became dealers as they began finding material and prices appreciated.  Not every certificate will appreciate, but quality, unique pieces have appreciated by 50% or more over the last 10 years according to George Teas. . There are many factors that help to determine a certificate’s collector value: historical significance. autograph value; age of the certificate; the industry represented; vignette; whether it is issued or not; it attractiveness; condition and collector demand. will have a large display of Modern Stocks which is one have the fastest growing areas of the hobby.  Included in this area are certificates from the current Scandals including such companies as Enron, Worldcom, Adelphia, ImClone, Martha Stewart, Rite Aid, Tyco International, DrKoop, Egghead, and XO Communications.  You will be able to see our exclusive "Insider Trading" and "Modern Scandal" Packages.  We will also be premiering our "Disconnected Number" package of failed telecommunication companies.
